Remove background from image using Photoshop

This Photoshop tutorial will teach you how to remove the background from an image. There are many ways to remove the background from an image.

I will show you with the extract filter which is probably the easiest method. For this tutorial I have used a free stock image of horses which is available at: www.sxc.hu.

Remove background from image

Step 1

Open an image in Photoshop.

Step 2

Select Filter > Extract. A Window should pop up.
Using the tool already selected draw an outline of the area you wish to keep.

Step 3

Choose the paint bucket tool and fill the area you wish to keep.
Click Ok.

You should now have an image with no background. If there is still some background left on your image, use the eraser tool to tidy it up.
